Mick Jagger impresses Hindus by singing in Sanskrit
13/Aug/2011 - 11:53 POSTED BY PATRICK
The forthcoming second single from Mick Jagger's new project, SuperHeavy, called 'Satyameva Jayate', sees Mick singing in the historical Hindu language of Sanskrit. Oscar winning A.R. Rahman, who is Indian, composed the track.
Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, told WENN, "We salute Mick Jagger and his group for experimenting in Sanskrit and we urge other popular singers and groups to also bring the ancient language to a new generation. Sanskrit offers a storehouse of wisdom which needs to be explored further by popular culture in order to bring spirituality into the life of consumerist society, which is full of distractions." The song translates as 'truth alone triumphs'.
