History and recording

The songs were recorded at various live shows during the course of the 1997/98 Bridges to Babylon Tour. The various venues included Amsterdam Arena, River Plate Buenos Aires, Zeppelinfeld Nuremberg, TWA Dome in St. Louis and MTV's 10 Spot. The Japanese bonus edition had a recording of "I Just Want To Make Love To You" between "Respectable" and "Thief In The Night".

In 1998, the album reached no.67 on the UK Top 75 Albums Chart and no.34 on the American Billboard 200. "Gimme Shelter", released as a single, reached no.29 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart of 1998.
